switch user
which linux distros allow you to do the 'log off->switch user' thing that windows xp has?
having more than one person logged in at the same time on the same pc is one of the few features that has stopped me from changing OS. (actually, its probably the only *feature*, the rest of the time its familiarity with apps on Windows) >>> forget it, after posting this there was a bit at the bottom of the page with other 'switch suer' posts. could an admin delete this post? << |

i used linux before winxp came out, multi-logins and individual directories for people did seem kinda linuxy :)
ive read about the startx -- :1 now, and that suse (the one i was favouring anyway) lets you do it in kde without command line (makes the change of OS easy for others who are going to be using this pc). |
My Ubuntu system is setup with 3 users. ctrl-alt-fX* to switch screens---never saw **this** in XP. Everyone's setup is preserved, no logout/login.
*eg f7, f8, f9 (I'm not sure how many are possible) |

On the other hand, it feels like all Linux is doing right now is playing catch-up. Trying to make all Windows based hardware and software work. |
