SWAT installation

I'm new to Linux. I am trying to install SWAT and I get a message that 'xinetd' is missing. I downloaded xinetd tar file and installed it.('install-sh xinetd target_folder'). How do I start the service?
I copied as xinetd.conf and tried this "xinetd -f /path/xinetd.conf'. It returned me a page full of errors.
I'm still reading the docs. I'll be happy if anyone could help me. I am running short of time.
