Swapping touchpad buttons

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I am trying to swap the buttons on the synaptic touchpad on my laptop. I want to do this globely so that what ever desktop environment I start the buttons are swapped.

I am able to swap the buttons in Gnome via the mouse controls in the menu but the programs don't show up in the taskbar. I have not tried to swap them in KDE since I did a reinstall, because KDE has a bug that is causing it to hog the cpu, but before the reinstall I couldn't get them to swap in KDE. So I have gotten around to Fluxbox, and setting up my own config.

I have searched google but can't seam to locate where any one has posted about swapping the touchpad buttons. Instructions for a mouse are all over but they don't work on my touchpad, while they do on a usb mouse if I connect it. I would like to do this in xorg.conf if possible.

Any ideas?

You might want to take a look in your xorg.conf file -- there is quite a section on input devices, specifically mice. You may be able to swap the buttons there; it's been awhile since I've poked around in mine, but it may be a good place to start.

I have played with the xorg.conf file and did succeed in swapping the mouse buttons but I have had no success with the touchpad buttons.

I don't know if changing the touchpad to be the 'core pointer' instead of the mouse would help or not. I have read a few brief mentions of that but nothing yet that has caused me to try it.

I'd give it a try. In my xorg config it recognizes my touchpad as the core pointer so I've never had to mess with it. Then again, I've never tried to swap the buttons either ;)

I say give it a go and see where you end up. The success with your peripheral mouse bodes well.
