swapped monitor, 7 overlapping screens, stripes

Newbie always
Past newbie.

Months (years?) ago I configured a monitor for my Linux machine. The guys swapped it out for a older dirtier one and now I have 6-7 screens going across, overlapped and blurry/striped. It is impossible to read. I have been able to <ctl><alt>+ and get to a 3 level so I can read the terminal.

Would this be vertical and horizontal synch rate? How would I edit this. I believe the resolution is okay.

Isn't this in the config file?
