Suse9.0 pro - no screen on boot

Hello - I have just tried to install my first Linux system on my PC. Its set-up to be a dual-boot windows 98/suse9.0 pro system. The windows works fine. But when I boot into Linux it appears to go well but instead of getting a login screen the monitor goes blank and the on light flashes like it has no connection to the computer. On the other hand if I hit a key the computer seems to be doing something!

So my first thought was graphics driver. I suspect its something to do with having a NVidia graphics card - it wasn't supported. However, being a newbie I am not sure how to go about changing anything.

Appreciate any help or ideas....thanks, Mark

Hi thanks - reading the howto would suggest that I need a linux system. Unfortunately I don't have access to it as I can;t see anything on the monitor - do I therefore need to reinstall differently?

Cheers, Mark

On the boot-loader screen pass "single" as a parameter
to your kernel ... that is assuming that you have e.g.
lilo installed, and a selection menu for kernels... highlight
the default kernel, and type " single" behind its name.

That should give you a text-only login.

Cheers,
Tink
