suse video problem

I will give what info I can in hopes to figure out how to get you the info you need or at least fix the mess I created.

I built up a Suse 9.0 pro box on a homebuilt PC using a 21in monitor

The res was set to 1280x1024

the monitor and NIC has since died

I went back to my older 17" monitor with a max res of 1024x768

as the NIC is dead I cant ssh or telnet to it

Is there a way to login without starting X
then what file can i edit that will let me
reset the video so I can get back into the UI
