SUSE Live CD 9.0 Boot Problems

I am having problems installing the SUSE Evaluation CD 9.0.

I have the bios set-up to boot from the CD-ROM. The disk is inserted. After the bios notes, it starts to boot from the CD. The CD starts humming, then my the linux booter starts up - LILO or GRUB.

How can I stop it booting to LILO or GRUB everytime. I tried installing GRUB. Still probs. Then installed LILO. It does not boot from the SUSE CD but from the installed linux on the harddrive. I removed every reference to the hard drive from the BIOS.

Any ideas? Thanks guys.

"I have the bios set-up to boot from the CD-ROM. The disk is inserted. After the bios notes, it starts to boot from the CD. The CD starts humming, then my the linux booter starts up - LILO or GRUB."

This is what happens when you try to boot from a non-bootable CD, any non-bootable CD. The BIOS plays with the CD for a second or two and then goes to the next bootable device, the hard drive, and tries that.

So you need to make a bootable CD. The one you have is not bootable.

Sounds logical, but the CD was from the cover of a magazine Linux Format (UK) and was clearly printed SUSE 9.0 Evaluation CD.

It should work then, I suppose. Try booting the CD in another computer. Also try booting a bootable CD that's known to work in your computer. That way you can isolate whether the CD is the problem or if the problem is somewhere in your hardware (BIOS, CD-ROM?).
