SUSE Linux v10 NTP won't stay Synced
 

Hello All, I am having a problem getting my time to sync up with my Symantec Firewall appliance that does the routing and is the primary NTP server that all of my servers are getting their time from. The other servers do not have this problem. I'm running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 on a Virtual machine environment. The problem is I can't get the time to stay correct. It seems to go 1 hour ahead almost like the time zone is incorrect but it is setup correctly as far as I can tell. I'm new to Linux so I am not sure how to debug this problem. Is there a known fix for this or can someone tell me how to check and make sure everything is setup correctly? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Sethsdadthelinuxer, I have tried to figure it out but everything seems to be configured properly but when I use the NTP agent in Yast it sets the time properly and everything looks good but 24 hours later I gain 40 minutes. I'll look at the hwclock manual but if there is anything else you can add for me to check that would be great.

Hello All, I am at my wits end on this problem. I still can't get my SUSE Linux Enterprise Servers to do a time sync. I gain exactly 40 minutes every day. They are runnig as virtual machines using VMWare and I have tried setting Paravirtualization, NTP and HWClock to make sure the clocks start out all syncronized. I can't figure out what is wrong. If anyone has a Linux script thatI can set to manually set the time or a fix for this I would really appreciate any help I can get. I have searched the web and it appears this problem is wide spread but no answeres seem to be available. This is runnig our mail server so the time is very important. Any help would be appreciated.

you've done ntpdate pool.ntp.org? If so, have you considered doing a crontab to do this command hourly?

Thanks for all the advise but it appears I had a corrupted VMWare Tools somewhere. Once I reinstalled the VMWare Tools to the latest version it appears to be working. I will know more at the end of this weekend which will be the best test.
