SuSE Linux 8.1 "Eyes"

I am a complete "Newbie" to Linux and this is driving me mad.

After installing everything I went off and tried a few of the included games just to see which would run. One of the games I tried, in the "Fun" category, was "Eyes". This puts a pair of eyes on the desktop which follow the mouse pointer around the screen. Very clever - for the first minute or so!

My question is this - how do I get rid of them?

I am sure you experts are laughing yourselves sick at this stupidity and the answer is probably staring me in the face. But please help before I get rid of them by using a large housebrick!

Thanks in advance.

Try right clicking it and choosing close...

Else,

go to a command line, type "ps aux" and find the pid number of this program (the first number on the left, just next to your username) then type "kill pidnumber" where pidnumber is the pid number...

Else,

type "xkill" at the command line, then aim the death-head curser at the eyes and fire...

ha ha ha, don't like the eyes staring at you for very long eh? Did it only open as an applet in the taskbar (kicker assuming this is KDE)? If so, you can sometimes right click on the taskbar, go to applets, then uncheck the "eyes" applet if it's available.

I also like the killall command, find the name of the executable for the eyes program (maybe it's eyes?) and then:
killall eyes
into a terminal.

Cool

Thanks folks.

Right clicking them was the first thing I tried. I got another set!!

I'm printing out both your suggestions and will let you know which one works in restoring order to a confusing world.

Thanks again.

I believe the app is called coloreyes btw :)

Cool

Well I just tried firing eyes up so I could find what it's called, and it crashed my panel. Jeez....

Anyone know how to fire the panel up without restarting kde? :)

--Don't answer, it's "kicker" ;)

MasterC 01-13-2003 03:39 PM

Um, that's how you fire it up though... I believe ALT F2 opens up the run dialogue, and then type:
kicker
And it loads kicker...

OHHHH.... I just realized that was your edit. You are saying, "I found it, nevermind" he he he :D

Cool

Both Bulliver's kind answers worked perfectly.

I much preferred the second option. Firing the "Deaths Head" cursor at the eyes was one of the most satisfying things I have done for ages!!

MasterC - I'm sure your suggestion would also have worked but I'll be dammned if I'll put those eyes back to try it! Incidently, the eyes applet does not show up in the taskbar.

Thanks again to all.
