suse installation - boot cd problems (seems to be burnt fine!)

hi guys,

got the latest 9.3 isos of the opensuse site, and burnt them to disc. Now when i put cd 1 in pc 1(newer) it boots fine and brings the boot menu up.... however when i put the disc in pc 2(older (original pentium with 48128kb ram and 32x cd rom) the machine fails to recognise the cd.

now i can boot of the win98 cd fine from pc 2 and when i dir from the dos command prompt the suse cd reads fine but i just cant get it to boot.

the hdd was fdisked and then rebooted at which point the machine came up with "missing operating system". I then tried formating it at which point the machine then booted with "invalid system disk". I dont know if thats important but i just noticed it and thought it was weird.

thanks in advance!

It's possible the CD drive doesn't read burnt CD's well? I know some older CD-ROM drives are like that. If that's the case, you can just move another CD drive into that machine (just until SUSE is installed), then move it back. Or try re-burning it - maybe it's a slightly bad burn, where some CD drives can read it and some can't.

Good luck!

ive tried swaping the cdrom to a creative 52x and its still coming up with the same problem... surely there has to be an explanation!!! :(

missing operating system

I don't know if this is related but I'll throw it in. I downloaded -10 beta-3 and have a similar problem.

Disk-1 apparently tries to do a preliminary install. The machine reboots to CD and continues on to HD.
Then the "missing operating system" message pops up and everything stops there.

I have downloaded using different desktop computers, one with a generic drive, the other a Plextor. Same results.

I am installing to a Compaq Presario 1900 laptop. Not the newest but should still install fine. I tried other distros and they installed fine.

Not sure how to get around this...
