SUSE - How to adjust Screen Resolution

How do I adjust the "screen resoluion" within SUSE? My resolution appear low because my desktop is larger than my monitor size (resulting in side bars).

Thanks.

In tye gui there should be prefrences -> screen resolution.
Else if you know the screen resolution you want you can run yast as the root.

I haven't used SUSE for quiet a while but the "setup" like thingy in SUSE are the "yast" and the "yast2" applications.

Well forgot to mention yast or yast2 (been a long time I worked with open suse) also works in cli. But you would need to login as root.

Thanks for you reply. I don't see preferences or screen resolution within either the desktop settings and Yast. Other ideas or am I looking in to the wrong place?

Hmmm... this is strange. The last time I checked screen configutation was in yast and yast2. Also (if you are using kde) there should be an icon on the LHS bottom to change resolution.
Anyway, the main file is /etc/X11/xorg.conf. You can make changes there and restart gdm/kdm. Then there is my favourate 'X -config' but then for some reasons it works perfectly for my computer.
Is the video card being detected properly? The xorg.conf will tell you that too. Make sure that you have a backup of the file before you make any changes to it.
Hope this helps.

To adjust screen settings, go to Kickoff Application Launcher (the green disc in the bottom panel), choose "System settings" then "display".
