suse ftp install
Im trying to install Suse linux 8.2 from ftp with a bootable iso i downloaded.
When i boot the burned cd I cant find my network card on the list It is an integrated lan on my mobo which uses the NVIDIA modules (nvnet) can anyone tell me how to load this module from the boot cd so i can download via ftp |
If you have a NVIDIA lan, you have to load the drivers from the nvidia site.
See : WWW.NVIDIA.COM CB |
i know that but i need to know how to load them from the bootable cd

On this page there is a live evaluation as an iso.
http://www.suse.com/us/private/downl...nux/index.html Get this one first install, get the drivers from nvidia, install them and get the rest you need, or install them with yast from your cd. cb |
how do i install the evaluation cd?
maybe i havent said enough about the situation: i have downloaded and burnt an iso which will let me install the free version of suse over their ftp. But because there is no module on the bootable cd for my network card (nvnet) i cannot access the network. So how do I put a module which i can load onto the cd so that the installer will be able to load it? |
Try using the tuplip module....it works for alot of different types of network cards. Mine is a Linksys and it works with it. Give it a shot and see if it works.

I have the same problem but with a SMC 1660T card. What driver do I use, and if I find it, how do I load it?
Considering that I need my network card working in order to download SuSE, how do I get the FTP install CD to recognize it? |

There is a live eval on ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/ if you burn that one, you can run it from cd and don't need to ftp anything. cb |

If you have installed win-something you can see in that system what kind of driver is used. e.g. for what chipset. Or you can load the eval : see one of the other reply's. Another option in that case is to get the knoppix iso. knoppix runs also from cd, but then you can see if knoppix recognizes your nic. (Search for knoppix with google) If knoppix neither doesn't recognize it your only hope is the builder of the card or a search on google for the driver. CB |
no I know what the module is I even have the module.
Its just that for some reason the nwetwork is never recognised until the module is loaded. Its a case of how do i load that module from the bootable cd and the tulip module doesnt work |
You can't load the module before you have loaded the os. Thats why I suggested you should get the eval. Burn it. Install it, put your module in.
and then you can download whatever you want. cb |
OK, I think I've found the driver. Now how do I load it? So the Live-eval versions can let you install things? Then how do I change the Live-eval version to a normal version later without deleting my installed driver?

If that is not possible, the most simple way to overcome the troubles is to put (temporally) a more known net work card (realtec a.s.o.) in. Put the onboard off in your bios. Get everything you need. Get the card out, switch on the onboard card. Install (Yast). cb |
What's the login and password of the Suse Live Eval?
