SuSE and USR 5686 modem difficulty

I'm trying to get my USR 5686 external modem to operate under SuSE Linux. I go through the YaST configuration routine, the modem is recognized, and I enter all the prompted particulars including user name and password required for my ISP. When I run wvdial I get the following message:

livio@linux:~> wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.42
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Idle Seconds = 300, disabling automatic reconnect.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid login name.
--> Configuration does not specify a valid password.
livio@linux:~>

The modem never attempts the dialing process.
Any suggestions as to what configuration login name and password are being looked for would be appreciated.

Your username and password that is needed in order to connect to your ISP.

If you will command:

wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

the probe will run and write a config file for you to edit. Put the dial up number, login username and password in the indicated places, then you should be able to connect with the command

wvdial
