SuSe & Problems
Hello
Recently I Installed SuSe 9.1 Linux Personal. It was a good experiance to install it instead of RHL. After Installation i have some problems which are 1. Where is Apache ? is it installed with SuSe. If yes then how to run it ? if not then where to find it. 2. My Sound Driver (Intel 845 Chipset On Board Named :AC97 ) Is detected by linux. & for first two days i was hearing songs very well. but today it fails to outputs. i tried to remove & reinstall hardware with YaST but problem is sticky. 3. In SuSe Linux is it possible to Connect Internet With Modem & Normal Dial up connection. actually i am using Kinternet applet to connect. My Internal Modem Dials & Make noise as connecting but after 1 minute it displays no carrier . mean while i am able to connect same ISP with Windows or RHL using same modem & line Please Solve My Problem as early as possible Thanks Kirtimaan |
You could check if you installed apache by going yo the yast2 -> install programms -> search and look for apache
If it is installed the configuration files can be foun in /etc/apache/conf And to start it you should as root execute something like /etc/init.s/apache start Hope this helps |

However, whatever you download, if you like it, please contribute bucks back to the vendor by buying a boxed set or a shirt or something so they will be encouraged to continue their open source efforts. Quote:

My best recommendation is do not use Suse personal edition. It's a very weak distribution. |
SuSE
Hello
First i am sorry about asking you the ''quick help''. As a user with trouble you can assume what he says . yes the words exactly i said. any way i understand it. I am trying SuSe because i think that it is easy . i am trying it only with personal edition. for long journey i will purchase the professional version. Thanks For Your Tips & i will keep that in mind. How can i setup my soundcard now as that was working for 2 days ? the reinstallation in only the one way ? Apache in not listed or searched with the 'Install Software' from yast. also no directory name apache is there on system. but httpd.conf file is there. ?? With Linux (SuSe or Other) is it possible to make Disk Less Nodes as Server have a large harddisk & client haven't one . they boot from network server. if yes then how.. Thanks Kirtimaan |
You can probably configure your soundcard in whatever the GUI is for linux configuration in Suse. That would do the trick. In Mandrake, I open up the configurer, and then choose hardware, and then choose soundcard and push the button to probe and set it up.
If you want to play with Apache, I recommend you download and install Mandrake. The free download comes with Apache and several other servers as well as a full development loadout. |
Mandarke ...
I tried Mandarke once but i found that doesn't mount my windows partions & got a little problem while installing Wine.
Also i don't know how to configure Mandarke on Network as A Server as i asked above. If you know tell me |

Run alsaconf as root from the console. That should solve your audio problems, it did for me.
|
Thanks
running alsaconf from console works & i can configure sound. I think that it is better to configure current system ,troubleshoot problems rather than change it.
