SUSE And AMD 64?
I'm planning on putting together a whole new computer w/in the next few months and I'm considering getting the Athlon 64 along w/SUSE's 64-bit distro. Anybody here have any experience w/this distro and the AMD 64 chip? SUSE sure makes it sound powerful. Very interesting. Put that together with 1 Gig of memory and a 128 mg AGP video card, man, that'd be a smokin' machine!
Thanks for any thoughts or comments, Harold |

GREAT system but SATA disks not supported yet. |
The Linux Journal magazine a few months back was called "The Ultimate Linux Box". It had dual AMD64's with sata raid and all this other crazy stuff. It really was ultimate. Anyway the people who put the machine together decided to go with Suse as the distro. They cited a bunch of reasons but I'll take their word for it.

I've built a dual 64-FX system. It screams along quite nicely I might add.
I've drooled over it several nites after it was up and running. (I know I know... but that's just me) If you like linux, and you've been waiting forever for 64-bit arch like I have, then this is definately the thing for you. However, prices are still a little steep. I had to spring for it because I needed the 64-bit system for my development. The Ultimate Linux Box was a good article. But I didn't go with their specific hardware. You can actually get the sata working, but it's really tricky. At least it was for me 'cuz I hadn't worked with sata and linux before. Good luck. L8rz |
OK thanks guys. I found the ULB article, unfortunately being a Linux newbster and not being a tecnophile, much of it was incomprehensible to moi, but I got the general gist: It mostly worked.
