SuSE 9.3: yast installs rpm's to which dir?

i just dowloaded the java 1.5 sdk (the jdk**.rpm.bin version) and installed it from the hd with yast.

1. is it correct, that i have no choice in which dir to install new software, using yast in this fashion?

2. how do i know where the software lies after installation? is this determined by the rpm or by my system config?

If you want to know where you have installed java, follow these guidelines:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/insta...elf-extracting

I have installed it two days ago in the directory of my choice.

to 1.: Yes!
to 2.: It is determined by the rpm. You can list the files and their destination by 'rpm -ql <package>', or by using konqueror (has a 'files' tab when you click on the rpm).
