SuSE 9.3 problems
 

I have downloaded the entire Linux 9.3 CDs (5 of em) and am trying to install it on a P III 512 ram. After downloading, I checked each ISO with MD5SUMS, and all were fine. When I booted with the first CD in, I checked the media (which was strongly reccomended), and MD5SUMS were no identical, and the test failed. I decided to continue nevertheless, since I had checked the MD5s after downloading, they should be fine. After half a minuter or so after installation began, I had a file which couldn't install, and I had to abort installation. A) If my CD is faulty, that would be weird, since it was still in the case unopened. B) If I have to burn another CD with the 1rst part of the install, how can I be sure MD5SUMS will match, because I wouldn't like to waste another CD. BTW, I burned each ISO using MagicISO.

I tried to burn another CD of the first part of the installation at 8x thinking it could be a too fast speed the first time (it was at 52x), but when I tried to install, I checked the media again and MD5SUMS didn't work. HOW DO I GET IT TO WORK??

It sounds to me that you downloaded the images correctly (as md5sum showed) but during the recording (burning process) something went wrong. Hence the CD can not verify itself.

What you could do is try to record the ISO again but with a different program than magicISO

(under windows I mostly load the ISO into a virtual cdrom and then copy it from there, never had problems)

There is also a free evaluation software called ISOBUSTER which you can download. Google it up. It will extract the contents of the ISO file to a directory. You can then just burn the extracted files to a CD.

Normally I just burn my ISO files using Nero and I've never had a problem.

There is a problem with extracting ISOs as your bootrecords are lost and you need those on a install/live cd

you should get a new icon in your systray, rightclick on it, and choose mount

(Some programms cause problems with ISOs, but that happening is rare.)

It sounds like your downloaded image is OK (hence the correct MD5SUM) however it may be that either you are not burning the image to the disk as an ISO image, or that your CD media is defective. Most likely it is the former; just be sure that when you're burning that you are burning it as a bootable ISO image. Good luck with it and Welcome to LQ! -- J.W.
