SUSE 9.1, upgrade from Personla to Pro....
Hija.... So after 7 years of none Linux activity, I desided to get back in
the Linux scene. So here I am :) I installed the Personal ver. and I was pretty happy about it, so now I'm waiting to recive the Pro ver. any day now. So what I was wondering about is how easy is it to upgrade?? Can I expect the same easy way that it was to install the Personal?? Do I have to uninstall it?? |
All I can tell you this was my first time EVER dealing with Linux. I got SuSe 9.1 Pro at best buy ( had some rebate coupons and credits saved up) Saw that this was a 64bit OS, been reading alot about SuSe in PC magazines. Just bought a new H-D to put it on (just in case I messed up) Put the DVD in after formatting the H-D, SuSe took care of the rest. BUT I didn't find out till reading alot of threads here that I needed to go back and get all the tools off the DVD. I just chose basic and didn't get all the packages the first time. Now I'm trying to learn to USE the stuff. lol I found that after a SuSe session when going back to the windows H-D that after boot up Windows I have to shutdown and boot up again. If I don't do that I loose my Net card info, have to reinstall drivers and reconfigure the card. But if I do the above reboot-twice it's OK Hope this helps some.

I'm pretty sure that you can just install over the previous version of personal. I think I just placed cd1 in the drive, then rebooted the pc suse took care of the rest. You may want to back up your personal files though, as I would have thought that pro would take up more space than personal.

So I got the Professional version and the installation went really well :)
It is so much different than the Personal version, that it is almost a joke... *ha ha* So... my new Linux life is starting and I feel good... |
I didn't even touch on the personal on my pc just went for the pro version. I have seen the personal version but its so stripped down. At least Pro allows your linux abilities to grow without lots of extra downloads.
All the best and enjoy. J |
