SuSE 9.1 picture viewing

Well the problem is:
As i started to use linux SuSE, i noticed, that all pictures looks darker than on windows.. To see something in image, i have to copy picture, then open them with Kuickshow and press few times B to get a normal brightness image.
What i want to know is how can i make them show not so dark?

is it the pictures or just plain all of X? assuming that it's actaully X, use xgamma (or some probably existing higher-level control centre widget to adjust the overall settings seperately to your actual monitor hardware.

That's only with pictures - all other is with normal brightness.
Tried to change gamma, but as i make it brighter, then all gets brighter.. painfully brighter..
