Suse 9.1 Personal Reiserfs Transactional Log Error

Hello All,
New to Linux and trying Suse 9.1 personal with VirtualPC on Windows XP Pro on a Dell PowerEdge 400SC with P4 2.4c without any issues.

On the other hand I installed Suse 9.1 personal on an old Abit BP6 440BX mobo with Dual Celeron 500mhz, 256 SDRAM, new Seagate 80GB hdd on ide controller not on Udma Highpoint controllers.

I was unable to install Suse with auto installation or manual installation as it would hang on reboot from CD. I then successfully installed with safe settings. But when I downloaded and installed 73 patches, upon reboot the process stops at reiserfs transactional log.

I have researched this on Google and found other people with this issue without resolve for myself.

My conclusion is that reiserfs is not good with old hardware as the install of Suse on the PowerEdge went without a hitch.

I am planning on reinstalling Suse on the old Abit BP6 with ext/2 format instead of reiserfs.

Does anyone have any input on resolving the transactional log infinite delay?

I am also bootloading with Grub.

Thank you,

Roger

Well, I reinstalled, safe settings, Suse 9.1 personal with reiserfs on the Abit BP6. I downloaded the patches except the Kernel update. The description on the Kernel update stated not to install on a new installation.
After installing the patches I rebooted successfully.
Is anyone able to tell me if I can install the Kernel upgrade at some point in the future without winding up with the reiserfs transactional log infininte delay?
Thank you,

Roger
