Suse 9.1 Network Connections

Greetings..

I've just installed Suse 9.1 and dumped Mandrake 10.0. I just wanted to try out a different distro. At least thats was I have been told; "try out different distros to find out which one is best suited for you". So...

Problem:
I cant seem to get my inbuilt Lan card on my laptop (Toshiba 2800-600) to work. I have a d-link wireless too but first I want the lan card to work. During installation, the cards (both internal and the d-link wl cards) are detected. Only thing is when i go to test connection I get a "FAILURE" plastered across my screen. The error i get:

Opening of Connection
eth0 device: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM/CA/CAM Ethernet Controller (rev 03)
eth0 configuration: eth-id-00:00:39:2d:40:9e
DHCP client is already running on eth0

Now. Let me tell you of my current setup. I have a DSL mode/router/WL unit connected to the my ISP. 1 windows machine connected to the router and a hub. Two machine connected on the hub; 1 desktop and one laptop. I'm not sure if this would help.

And can anyone send me a link that explains LDAP and NIS?

If anyone has any idea on how to fix this I would appreciate it if you could lend me a hand. thx.

When installing, did you select DSL as your Internet choice. If so, the system is trying to use PPoE rather than straight ethernet. Boot the system, open a terminal window and type ipconfig eth0 up then dhcpcd eth0 , and tell us what happens.

Did you want to know what LDAP & NIS stand for?
What they are used for?
Why someone would use them?

Please explain that part a little more.
