SuSE 9.1 live eval cd problem

I'm very new to Linux, and I can't seem to be able to read my cd rom's in SuSE 9.1 live eval. The one that I'm really trying to read from is my Sony DVD+RW, it's like a 500 something model #, i forget. If it's a simple problem could someone help a newbie, and if you need more info just say so and I'll get it. Thanks in advance.
