SUSE 9.1 freezing every few seconds.

Hey all,

Ok I've tried to make the change from windows XP to SUSE 9.1 but I'm encountering a very odd problem, one that's about to send my brand new distro of SUSE into the dumpster. The installation of SUSE works fine, but after the configuration is saved and the installation reboots the GUI/mouse/keyboard freezes every 10 to 15 seconds, then it starts working again. This happens no matter what I do. Here are the steps I've tried.

1. turned acpi=off
2. installed in "safe mode"
3. remove the "desktop" setting from the kernel boot parameters

Also, I've got a Nvidia geforce 3 video card and a wireless keyboard and mouse from logitech. I have no idea what to do from here. I'm tempted to go back to windows XP just to get a working machine again. Does anyone have any suggestions, any help will be most appreciated.

Hi there,

We'll need some specifics about your box in order to hopefully help you with this issue.

You say you're running an Nvidia GF3 card right? Are you having these 'freezes' running the native drives or have you installed the Nvidia drivers?

What, precisely, is happening (i.e. does it 'freeze' on login to KDE/Gnome--with user input or no? It may be something as simple as a prob with permissions on something like a directory that you're trying to 'display' or otherwise.

Long and short of it though...we need more info

I'm having the same probkem with Mandrake 10 at the moment

ever 10-15secs or so the whole system stops for about 3-4secs (mouse, clock)

I'm using the bundled native drivers because the Linux ones fail to work at all

(It stopped about 10 times typing that )
