Suse 9.0 Freezes when loading KDE 3.1
 

Hi, I am new to linux, just installed Suse 9.0 with the FTP install. I downloaded the boot ISO and burned it and booted with it. The install went fine and then the configuration afterward went fine. I configured all the devices and everything. Suse started to boot, the Suse screen came up and the KDE 3.1 loading screen came up and began loading the different parts. It freezes on this screen every time. It freezes on in different places so there isnt really much more I can say. So far it has froze on the second, third, and fourth step. My computer has an Athlon XP 2500+ running at 1.83ghz, 512 megs of ram, 80 gig hard drive, partitioned, 70 gigs for windows XP and then 10 for Suse. Can someone please help me, I have no idea what is wrong and I have been trying to figure this out for days now. Thanks if anyone can help me with this.

I use Suze 9.0 on 6 systems, no troubles at all. I must admit, that I installed from cd/dvd. Before I had Suse 8.0 and 8.1 also from dvd no trouble. My guess is, that your download is not fully ok. Try the next: download a knoppix iso (knoppix.net)

Make a cd and try to start that one. It uses no hd it has also kde. If this functions I would suspect the download, try than to download again. From the dvd you can use a select point stating that your os is damaged an everything should be repaired. I don't know if there is such an option by FTP install.

Have you the option by ftp to install gnome ? From DVD you can install both so if one doesn't work correct, perhaps the other does.
