SUSE 9.0/64bit (AMD64) KDE log in issue

I have installed SUSE 9.0 for AMD64 through SUSE's FTP access a couple weeks back...

Now just started playing with it and noticed I cannot log in to KDE (using root or any other users).

I have no problem logging in to the bash shell using either root or any users. The /etc/passwd file is ok ... checked it with pwck.

I think something as to be flushed in KDE, but I do not know what I am talking about

Please help,

P.S. Just noticed the AMD64 CPU as dropped 50% in price... now is your chance!

are you having trouble starting the x server all together or just kde. alot of distros come with gnome and twm. try logging into those. you could also check your system logs in /var/logs. also, what are your symptoms? you cant login as in it says invalid username and password?

Issue resolved

Thank you for your pos...

I ended up re-installing from the ftp server and found out that I had initially made a mistake during the install process... I had selected "network authentification" which is not the case... That is, I believe the reason for it saying "invalid user name or password".
