SuSE 8.1 and Nvidia Kernel

HELP !

i recently installed SuSE 8.1 on my 1200 MHz Athlon /512 MB RAM
GeForce 3 TI 200.

Whe I tried to install the Nvidia Kernel RPM
(NVIDIA_Kernel-1.0-3123.suse81.i586.rpm) from nvidia.com, the system says that the kernel can't be installed ! i WAS logged in as root, and the GLX driver installs himself without problems.

Could anybody please help a poor newbie ?

thanx

Maybe it is bad.

I downloaded the damn file 4 times, and each time the filesize was the same, and the problem was the same. so if the file is not corrupted on nvidia's server, it "should" not be damaged....

When having troubles with the download at NVIDIA try using site adresses at different countries. The site from France is a lot more detailed then the official .com site of nvidia. Why , I don't know.

As for your kernel problem two things :
-I think you haven't installed the proper develepment packages rpm's needed to perform the compiling.
-I think you should open a terminal screen in SU-mode (super user)

I found out why the France site was different. They weren't updated. Now they are ;-) . Never the less the ftp site isn't mentioned any more here it is : ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86_40/nforce/

Installing the nvidia drivers is one of the few things I've done successfully in Linux and doing it from source is the best way. Follow the instructions from the nvidia site carefully. If I remember correctly, you have to install the glx file first. Did you do that?
