suse 7.1 online update problem..

I am quite a newbie here and am having an interesting problem. I have an existing windows domain (NT Sever running ms proxy server) and have set up my linux box a client.
I have confiqured netscape and konquerer with the appropriate proxy information and have no problem surfing the web and all on the linux box

My problem is when i pull up Yast2 and try to do an online update with Suse's FTP site it tells me it cannot find the ftp site (even if i'm looking at the ftp site in Netscape at the time) and i need to manually connect..any ideas what might be causing this???

i would be grateful for any possible leads!

Sounds like Yast doesn't know about your Proxy hence can't make the connection, yet Netscape is fine with your proxy hence gets the connection. Dunno if there is a proxy option in Yast (never used it) but I'd have thought it would solve the problem if you can find it.

In /etc/rc.config
Code:

FTP_PROXY=""
HTTP_PROXY=""

... put some good stuff between the quotes and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the advice...i went to /etc/rc.config and verified that i had the proxy info there (it is) and i still can't get this thing to work..i still get the error box stating: "there is no connection to network; please connect manually"

is there any other place that i might need to input the info? or might this be something on the windows side?gotta say it's got me kinda perplexed...anyway..thanks for the leads!

i was able to ftp from the console....(at least i was until i messed with some settings last night...currently i'm getting host not found error...dns issue i believe....but before i did that i could ftp from console.. i would get a connected message etc..)

i think maybe i'm just going to try again from scratch..it's a test machine anyway...i appreciate all the help though

Could be that the server was busy. Been kinda klunky this week.

No.... I guess things are not working... I have the same situation. Sitting behind a proxy and no yast online update... the PROXY values contain the correct values...
Other suggestions?

At least its not just me being a complete fool as I was beginning to suspect.

I've also got the correct the firewall/proxy settings added and can quite happily FTP into the ftp.suse.com using an FTP client, Mozilla, yoghurt pots and string, in fact everything but the yast online update tool :rolleyes:
