Suse 11.3 cant install software pkgs
 

I have installed SuSE 11.3 in Virtual box and when i try and install pkgs in YaST i get the following error message" System management is locked by the application with pid 6140(/usr/sbin/package kitd)" i am logged on as root and every application in YaST that i try and open i get this exact same message

It seems that system management is locked by the application with pid 6140 (/usr/sbin/package kitd). Stop/kill kitd then try again.

I am having this problem as well.
running ps -ef | grep kitd
or ps -ef | grep <reported pid>
both produce negative results.

This will be the applet that checks for security updates. You can kill it, as mentioned above, or you can just wait a few minutes for it to finish its checks. Well, assuming that the checks do finish; if there is a problem with your network connectivity, it may never finish, but then, if you have a problem with your network connectivity, you probably are not going to be able to use the network to install applications, anyway.

was actually a wireless problem
 

When I plugged in an ethernet cable, instead of using the
wifi, this problem disappeared. It appears that the
wifi hardware/software is robust enough for casual browsing,
but does not stand up to the stress of downloading new kernel and
kernel-source.
