Suse 10/Windows XP dual boot

I'm just entering the linux scene but I really have no clue what I'm doing. I got a copy of Suse 10 from my dad's business partner on 5 discs but I'm not completely comfortable with uninstalling windows yet, and I doubt my mom and brother would handle the change smoothly. I want to set up a dual boot and I don't want to go ahead and do that before I know exaclty what I'm doing. If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

suse 10 is really easy to install dual boot it will automaticall resize windows partition and install grub(bootloader) so the you can choose what you want to use. as long as you are not using obsolete hardware or bleeding edge new products everything should work out fine. you can check too see if your hardware is supported online. back up all data on your current HD now in case of a misstep and you are required to format drive and reinstall windows. you can also try linux on a live CD: knopix, DSL mandrivamove these allow you to use linux without permantly install to hd.good luck and welcome to the fold
