Suse 10 - Updating the themes
I am trying to update the themes on the Suse 10 using YaST. I have downloaded the themes from 'freshmeat'.
I can't install any of the themes. I am not sure, but is a particular theme written for a particular distribution? If yes, which themes can I install on my Suse10 and how can I do that without using YaST? Thanks. |
try using control center

If they are KDE styles and window manager themes, then you need to do
Code:
$./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` |
Thanks for the help guys!
I tried to use GNOME Control Center, but I keep getting "The file format is invalid". The files that I am trying to use have tar.gz extensions. Also, how do I know whether the theme is written for the KDE or GNOME. I have my Suse to use GNOME when I login. I don't really know whether the themes are written for KDE or GNOME. What is really the difference between KDE and GNOME? Is there another x-window (if that's what KDE and GNOME are) besides these two? Why can't the themes for one be also used for the ohter one? Sorry for all these (simple) questions. |

Thanks for all the help reddazz. So far, things have been working except my wirless (HP laptop dv1000 series). Do you have any suggestions?

Hello and thanks again. I was wondering if Suse 10 comes with a program that allows one to use window base applications (i.e wine or similar one) OR I should think about purchasing win4lin (or a similar product)? I have seen wine, vmware, and win4lin. Each one has its own advantage and disadvantage? Have you used any of those forementioned products? What are your thoughts?
Cheers! |

Thanks reddazz! I tried to change the login theme by going to
system --> configuration --> login screen setup pressing 'login screen setup' does not open any windows that allow me to continue installing new login themes and choosing between them. I got this to work first time I installed Suse 10, but ater reinstalling Suse 10, I have not been able to get this choice to work. I have actually reinstalled Suse 10 4 times thinking I had done something wrong during installation. What is really happening is that by going to system --> config --> login screen setup, nothing really opens up. It seems that something is going to happend because the cursor changes shape but after about 20 seconds of 'trying' nothing happens and the cursor is back to its original shape. Please let me know what you thing might be happening. |
