Suse 10.0 Dualboot with XP?

Have never used Linux before but want to start!
My new computer have got Xp pro as default and 2 hard disk:s, 160Gb in raid1 divided into 2x2 parts.
I have got a Suse 10.0 distribution and wanted to install the Suse distribution on the the other half.
But..... I got to the point in the installation where the Suse installation program wanted to shrink my partitioning to 20 something Gb and there it stopped!
What's going on?
If I start from scratch how do I do?
how should I do the partitioning of my hard disk:s?
And by the way, is there any other distribution supports a 64bit system?

When you say it stopped, what do you mean? Did it refuse to shrink your partition? It might not be happy with the raid setup if the correct driver is not loaded. Are you using on-board RAID controller, in which case what motherboard is it so we an help determine if the driver will be loaded correctly. There are other ways of resizing your hard drive, but it may still come down to problems loading the correct driver to handle your RAID array.

Stopped! hangup, dead, was forced to turn off the computer!
motherboard ASUS P5GD1.
And yes I think it's a on board raid The raid is managed by intel ICH6R chipset setup is done in Application Accelerator RAID Option ROM utility.
A question? why does it want to re-size the disk in the first place?

Hmm I choose something like "safe installation" in the installation menu, maybe I should just choose "installation"?
What is the difference between them?
