Hello...i am new at Linux....i use Slack*couse i have 3 months experiance with Linux at all* I made all...ALSA is configured XMMS too,but when i start to play some track the speakers dont work...i mean that i use Creative P8500 and SBAUDIGY 32bits....Only the 2 front speakers work ...the sub woofer very quite and other speakers just dont work..in windows all it works...can help me and tell me how to fix it :?:study:

Sounds like you need to adjust the volume or levels of the speakers. If your soundcard is a 5.1 type, meaning it has 6 plugs and you use all of them, then it should be as simple as launching your mixer (kmixer, gmixer, alsamixergui or alsamixer) and just increasing the volumes on the channels not coming in. If your soundcard is a 5.1 type that only has 3 plugs, you will probably have to tell it to use your other 2 plugs as surround jacks instead of mic/line in. That should also be a choice in your mixer, but might not be as obvious.

The Windows drivers probably artificially spread the sound to the other speakers, ALSA is doing it the technically correct way. 99% of your MP3s will be stereo, that means two audio tracks, left and right and as such should only be coming from the front speakers. They don't have a seperate LFE track so your sub is just there to compliment the front speakers, not do a specific job on its own.

Playing with some options in alsamixer or maybe Kmix (if you use KDE) should be able to spread the audio for you and if you check out the ALSA home page there are a lot of driver-specific option you can play with that should keep you entertained for a while :)
