surprising problem setting lan
 

hey guys !!

I am having a problem that i cant solve. I have two computers both running windows 2000 sp4 and fedora core 1. i configured both of them for lan . when running windows if one machine shuts down the other says network cable unplugged. one has the static address 192.168.0.1 and the other 192.168.0.2 . the problem is both the computers does not show the other computer .
while running linux i configured both of them properly but they do not recognise each other . any idea what could be the problem ?? I changed the ethnet cards but still no result.

can they ping eachother
like : " ping 192.168.0.2 " (from 192.168.0.1 )
