Supressing control characters in GTK+ based GUI's text area display

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I want to suppress/hide control characters in GTK+ based GUI's text area display. There is an ascii character
"ACK 6 ^F Acknowledge, clears ENQ logon hand" which comes as some annoying image.
[attached is the image for that]

One more issue/limitations of gtk is that unable to provide scroll arrow option in the horizontal text entry box. has any one faced this before?

Thanks.
