SU under a gui interface???
 

Ok here is the deal. I have been doing so extensive research and reading LOTS of books on linux and one question of mine has not been answered. How do I do a temp. SU to my root account under GUI. I know how to use the terminal to do it, but I'm wondering if there is a way to do it in GUI so that i can load things. Occasionally it will prompt me to give the root Password and I give it and things are all gravy...I want to know how to do this without Linux asking me...a manual way of doing it.

I'm glad that there is someone else who can't sus this out. I've only ever managed to do this by logging out of user account and back in as root (and that's more of a pain than having to supply a root password when asked).

But I suppose there must be some way of running multi sessions so you are root at the same time as being user.

hmmm for example under gui what i do if i need to edit a file or something or something like that i su myself and then just start "gedit".. that way i'm running gedit as root.. you can do that with any program.. don't think that's really what you asked but i didn't understand it that good so.. :)

something came to me now.. you can run a nested xserver.. you can do that under slackware 9.0 (you can select it at install somewhere in the xapps or something like that) and then you can just fireup a window and in that window you can just login as root and like that you can work as root and as user :) 2 seperate instances of X :)

How about kdesu theprogramnameyouwanttorunasroot ? If I want to edit a config file, or whatever, I run kdesu konqueror, it asks me for the root password, then Konqueror opens up with root privileges. Is that what you wanted?
