He started two new threads. I can't get the stupid search thing so I can put a link. It says no matches. I saw the links you silly puter. It's to late for this crap.
I'll find it and poke it in the puters eye. May find a few other places to poke it too.
ah well i think i'll just have to keep battling with this damned OS until it works, i have something to try from a nice guy on rage3d.com but i still don't think its gonna solve me SPDIF issues but i think it will sort my Radeon out.
eh? two? i only remember posting one of those how strange, ahh those were went i knew fsck all i'm much more enlightened about its workings but i still cant get me drivers working :S
I'm sorry i'm being a pain but u have no idea how many hours of anoyance this is causing me, all i ask for is working sound and ati drivers is it really too much to ask its not like i'm asking for the moon on a stick
I don't know the first thing about rpm's.I'd get the source for the drivers and install those - at least you'll get some error messages that make sense if they fail to compile but you could open up a whole new can of worms there about missing compilers and stuff.
Thats just my bad - I don't really know a lot about rpm's.What I do know is that they give you either cryptic error messages or none at all and still don't work like right now.If you install a tarball you normalllly get at least a error message that makes sense (well most of the time anyway).
right ok i'll use those. I have to say for an installer format its really not very handy as it doesn't tell u where its going where its been or what its done or whether its finished or not, hence my comment about installers easlier :P
Linux needs a proper executable installer format, similar to the msi on windows and has all the features of the windows installer
Well - actually you'll know a lot more about what is getting installed where when you compile from source then you'd know when you install a M$ app.Of course installing from source is not everybodys cup of tea but it does have advantages.
well i have the ATi drivers working with full hardware acceleration but i'm still missing SPDIF sound i've found ALSA drivers and an intel8x0.c with nforce spdif output.
so i downloaded the CVS snapshot and i'll see if i can install it tonight
Have a look at the gentoo howto for alsa installation.Of course the way you'll build it is different but the configuration part is very good. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml
