What does, the MBR messing up, or you getting screwed? If it's the MBR there might just be a problem with the disk itself then. If you are able to, backup any files (although it sounds like you can't at this point..) and do a nice clean format, drop in a clean install of XP, followed by a clean install of Linux (which you will use a floppy to boot so you don't mess with the MBR) and just hope everything stays smooth
