STUCK still trying to install NVIDIA drivers
Still trying to follow the instructions that are posted in the
FAQ: NVIDIA Drivers.
Got to the part where I enter ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run
The NVIDIA installer program starts to open but then I get the error:
UNABLE TO FIND THE SYSTEM UTILITY 'ld'
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PACKAGE 'binutils' INSTALLED.
IF YOU DO PLEASE CHECK THAT ITS IN YOU PATH.
How do I check that its there and or that its in the path?

type:
rpm -qa|grep -i binutils
in the terminal
*edit*
if you get a result then that means its installed, if no results and you just end up back at the prompt then go download the package and install it, and then retry the nvidia installer.

Got no results.
Can you tell me where to get it for RH 8?
Thanks
http://www.redhat.com/swr/i386/binut...2.i386_dp.html
is this right?
The above file for some reason would not install, although it would start but then nothing would happen.
Finally figured out how to get binutils-2.13.90.0.2-2 from the CD.
Once I got that installed I finished following the NVIDIA FAQ instructions and the driver is installed.
Now I finally can play Tuxracer, would be a better game if you could shoot or blow stuff up. Need to find some Linux 3D shooters.

You need to install the development tools, in "Add/Remove Software". Otherwise you may find you have ld but not some other important stuff. You'll need it eventually for compiling anyway.
