Stuc in GUI
I‘ve been using pinguy OS for a couple of years, but using is putting it rather strongly - as I mainly use Sigil, and always use the GUI.
I have a problem, and don‘t know where to ask about it. When the system boots to the GUI , the cursor behaves normally. But when I log in to my account, the cursor jumps to the bottom lhc of the screen and stays there sulking. (OK, that‘s rather anthropomorphic; it freezes.) It seems as if when I last updated/upraded packages something decided to disable the touchpad.
Does this strange behaviour ring any bells, and is there a known fix? Please speak REAL SLOW, as I have so far stuck to the GUI and know next to nothing about the cli. And if there‘s a better forum to ask in, let me know - I didn‘t see anywhere obviously appropriate.

You have not provided any information for us, so we can help you. It looks like Sigil is an application for editing e-books, is that correct? You OS is Pinguy. Correct?
I'm guessing you have a laptop? Make and model please. That will give us a starting point to try and figure out what touchpad you have. There are several manufacturers, Synaptics for example.
You stated the 'cursor' is stuck. Where is the mouse pointer? A cursor is usually visible in an editor. Can you control the mouse pointer?
Have you tried plugging in an external mouse? If yes, can you move the mouse pointer? Can you then insert the cursor in your editor with the mouse pointer?

I would try plugging in a USB mouse and then try to enable the touchpad with a working pointing device. And also give us the info camorri asked for in #2.

Thanks very much for this. I‘ll give it a go. (It should also help in providing answers to the qns implied in .-1: without a pointer, and stuck in the GUI... :-)).

Some info
Yes, Sigil produces .epub. It‘s running on a Dell laptop; I don‘t have details to hand - this is just a keep-alive reply. More later. (But maybe Dell is enough - for all I know they use only one sort of touchpad.
I used the wrong word for the mouse pointer. That is what‘s stuck. Sorry.

Thanks all. It's all fixed now. I used a USB mouse and enabled the touchpad. (I've since updated/upgraded packages, and it didn't regress; so I guess I must have accidentally hit a keyboard shortcut.)
(I'm documenting the hw/sw for future reference, but there's no need to waste bandwidth here.)

Glad you fixed it. Would you please take a moment and go to the top of this thread, click the "Thread Tools" drop down, and click "Solved". That will help other who come across this thread.
Only the original poster can do that, of course when you agree it is solved.
