If you are using the newest version of Firefox (FF 3.5), then the MPlayer plugin may not work properly. I use Suse 11.1 with KDE 3.5.10 & Suse 11.2 with KDE 4.3,and with both I use the Xine plug-in. You should also check that you haven't got two Flash plugins, as the distro may load one, and Firefox may load a different. You can find more help by look on the Mozilla forums at: forums.mozillazine.org

Video feeds that require Flash Player are working properly, the web site listed requires another program, like real player, to play the video feed. Althouugh I have the latest version of Real Player installed I still have a problem where the video feed starts to load and then stops.

Mplayerplug-in

Look for a package named mplayerplug-in. This will allow you to view embedded videos. You'll need to restart Firefox after installing.

I already have mplayer installed, along with gecko but the problem remains the same in that I cant play streaming video from the site.

It is the 6pm full news bulletin I am trying to get to work. The format of this feed is different from the other news feeds on the web site.

Are you sure?

Please check to see that you have mplayerplug-in, not just mplayer.
You should have at least these two libraries to view the windows media player file on that website:
‎/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in-wmp.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in-wmp.xpt

If you do not have those libraries (as well as the other mplayerplug-in files), then you only have mplayer installed.

When you goto the site, does it have a message that you need to install a plugin?
When I went to the site, it showed
"Mplayer plugin embedded video player for mozilla"
Then took quite a while to buffer the feed, but the connection from where I am at was very slow, and it took a while and "skipped" several times, but it came through.

You may also be able to install a media player named "moonshine". But it does not include the ms-codecs. If you goto the streaming site using moonshine, you should be able to "right click" the video frame and download the codecs from microsoft.

I have "MPlayer Plugin 3.25" and I have the two libraries installed(/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in-wmp.so and /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in-wmp.xpt ) and still when I go to the web site (http://www.3news.co.nz/Video/tabid/921/Default.aspx) the video wont load. I see MPlayer start and attempt, for a few seconds, to load the site and then it just stops.

I would really like to fix this and appreciate any help I can get.

When I went to your site in Fedora, FF popped up a box saying something about needing "Microsoft Media Server", whatever that is, so I'd say you're out of luck....

Think I've figured it out

Check if you have any other media player plugins such as the VLC mozilla plugin and the Totem Mozilla plugin (I presume you are using firefox????).
Those two plugins interfere with the mplayer plugin. Even though the player may state "Stopped" your computer is still loading the stream. It usually takes less than 1 minute for the stream to then begin.
I didn't try disable in the tools> Addons, I just uninstalled those plugins, and the feed came in fine.

kuwaitikid 12-15-2009 09:10 PM

I had both VLC and Totem loaded and I have disabled both buut the problem remains the same. I have since found, an error message (Firefox error consul CTRL+Shift+J) associated with the TV3 web site which I don't understand:

Warning: Error in parsing value for property 'filter'. Declaration dropped.

I was also having a problem with ASF Video Streams not playing which I have been able to fix by loading KPlayer. These now play with both MPlayer and KPlayer.

I would really like to get this 3news web site to work and your help in fixing the problem is very much appreciated.
