Streaming Video from Linux machine ?

It is possible (I'm sure it is but I don't know how), to stream video program played on one Linux computer equipped with DVD so it can be watched on another Linux machine? I have pretty fast Internet connection. I watch UNIX Academy training DVDs on a laptop, however I would rather stream it and watch on my netbook which is much lighter and more portable. Where should I start looking for a solution? I have no idea where to begin.

There are many ways you could do this. You could use a video player that supports remote control and streaming, like VLC. Or you could share the optical drive over the network via NFS and mount it remotely on the netbook. Then you could use whatever DVD playing software you want on the local machine.

I have been trying mounting it remotely over nfs, unfortunately when I close-open lid, and it happens quite often, it hangs on network connection and spins the wheel endlessly. I'll try vlc solution later.

Yep, it works. I installed it as suggested in second link and it works. It skips frames from time to time as I walk with a laptop from one room to another, but it may happen because of wifi issues. Nevertheless it works!

No, so that people who have the same problem can read them (when they search for their problem BEFORE posting a new thread, eh? )
