I am in the basement of my house very far away from the TV and do not know how to stream music, videos, without cables.
I heard about kodi and I did install it. But now do not know what else to do.
My tv is an intelligent Sony Bravia.
Iĺl kiss your feet in appreciation for your help.
If your intelligent TV has wireless or Ethernet connection to local network, you can use a Media Server. These can be set up on any computer. For Linux I use a very simple one called MiniDLNA, doesn't require Kodi or anything. Just runs in the background and make all media (movies, pictures, music) available on a media-only libray that can be seen by smart tvs, Roku and Fire sticks, etc. You can designate what folder to make available.
You could also look into Plex. I installed it on my server in the past month or so. Plex just runs as a service on your server and then for devices like your TV you can download the Plex app to connect to your server and media.
Yes, common ways are to use Kodi, jellyfin, plex and the like. Each one tells how to make a client and server model work. If this Sony has some sort of programs available then that is the best way to start I'd think. Do they support program install?
do u have media (videos, music, etc) stored in a hard drive either on the PC @ basement or some other PC/network in your home? an easy way to get going for any Kodi box would be your media and Youtube + Dailymotion addons haha
The miniDLNA route is very easy, but you do need a LAN connection between your media server (which can be a non-dedicated PC).
You do need an internet connection between the PC and the TV though.
For HD or 4K there needs to be a fairly decent connection - sounds like wifi would struggle?
If you want a commercial streaming option like Netflix et al then you will want a proper internet connection to the TV.
Just a clarification, with MiniDLNA you only need a network connection to the TV or device, not internet. With mine, the device (Roku stick) is two rooms away from the WiFi router and HD still comes through fine.
