streaming audio problems

hi y'all

i'm having problems with audio streams...

logging on to the bbc radio page and using the player on the page, the stream starts ok but after 15 minutes or so i get a spike of white noise and the audio stops working altogether. This problem is the same whther I'm using Mozilla, Galeon, Netscape or Konqueror which leads me to think that it's the sound server in Linux rather than the browser plugin.
The only way to get audio back is a total re-boot, restarting X is not enough.

Any ideas?

There are a lot of 30 minute comedy programs there but I haven't heard more than half of any of them.

Many ta's.

maybe it's your sound card??? I don't know really.. but the first thing i would think is if everything is in the right place and properly working. Did you install the correct sound card, or did mandrake pick it up it self? As i said before i really don't know :| sorry

Do you use the same plugin for all browsers? I guess it may be a problem with the plugin. As far as I remember you can also listen to bbc via real player. Have you tried it?

I normally just copy the URL out of the html and give it to RealPlayer directly.

Make sure the player is using OSS directly. I've found that the player just generally freezes for no reason if you leave it, just the price of using Linux at the moment unfortunately.

RealPlayer on Linux is a POS, but unfortunately the beeb don't listen when I shout at them
