Strange touchpad behavior with linux?

I have tested this problem with xubuntu, DSL, puppy linux, DSL-N, and slax and they all have this same strange problem.

The touchpad will work for a little bit but then randomly it will lock up and move to the far lower left corner of the screen and you can't move the mouse again until you hit ANY key.

It will also randomly right click and left click even if you never clicked those buttons.

As you can imagine having this odd behavior happen every couple of minutes is kinda a pain.

The reason I singled it out to be linux though is because when I had windows xp on the laptop I never experienced this strange problem.

Has anybody had this kinda of problem before with linux? Is there a fix?

Going back to windows xp is NOT an option......

I would prefer not to have to buy an exterior mouse for it.

Hye,

what touchpad is it? What does Xorg.0.log report? Are there any entries related to the touchpad or its driver?

I am still having this problem.

I just can't figure out what is going wrong.

It looks like it is loosing control over the touchpad and then regaining it. Sadly though the regained touchpad still ends up at the corner of the screen.
