Store Data in Flash

Please can anyone help me out!
I need to store a string in flash which basically resides in the target.
this particular string shall be modified whenever need arises.
How should I proceed? Flash uses JFFS2 file system, so is it necessary that the code be written in this block?
PLease guide me!

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

The one in Programming will be left open since it appeas to be
the most suitable forum for this question
