Still struggling with speedtouch
Hi Again
I am still struggling with this system, and trying to install a speedtouch 330 adsl modem in Xandross. I have downloaded the speedtouchconf file onto a floppy disc with the microcode on another. Accordng to the Steve Parker file on the installation the command is: tar xzvf speedtouchconf-dd-mm-yyyy.tar.gz Whenever I try this I get the same answer tar (child) :speedtouchconf_09_JAN_2006.tar.gz: cannot open:no such file or directory tar (child) :Error is not recoverable : exiting now tar child returned status 2 tar Error exit delayed from previous errors collies:/temp# Anyone got any ideas what is happening. Thanks |

So, where is your speedtouchconf_09_JAN_2006.tar.gz file? It is either not in the directory you are in (which appears to be /temp) or you have misspelled the filename. Remember that linux filenames are case sensitive. You say the speedtouchconf file is on a floppy disk. You should probably copy it to your home directory, and then try to untar it there. On my machine the commands would be: cp /mnt/floppy/speedtouchconf_09_JAN_2006.tar.gz /home/tredegar cd /home/tredegar tar xzvf speedtouchconf-dd-mm-yyyy.tar.gz HTH |
What distribution are you using?
For any that are listed there I would recommend using the guide at http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/ rather than the speedtouchconf method. This always proved better for me on FC3,4 and 5 as well as Ubuntu Hoary and Breezy. |
I'm trying to use Xandros 2.0 but finding life a bit of a struggle. I'm used to puting a disk or a floppy in to the drive a couple of clicks and everything is working.
