Ok here goes...I did finally get kde to come up once and i liked it,but after rebooting i havent been able to get it to come up again. I talked with jabent and he told me to type in kdm in the comand line all that happens is it flickers a second then goes back to the command line.think maybe i should reinstall? i try typing startx and it says something like fatal error.btw i am running mandrake 7.2 in windows. could that have something to do with it? would it work better if i just had mandrake on my system? not that i feel up to the partitioning though :S oh well i am going to get up from this puter and look at something else for a while. maybe it will come back after i can stop thinking lol
well have a great day and thanx for everything
Sorry about that, my AIM went down thru my works proxy server if you were looking for me on AIM. But anyways, yeah it sounds like you need to reconfigure X, you can use Xconfigurator or xf86config to try and get that working. What type of hardware are you using, video & monitor?
ok i reinstalled and still can not get the gui up. and i honestly do not know how to get to xconfigurator or xfree86conf. i tryed typing that in the command line and nothing happened what am i doing wrong? and my video is rage i think. my monitor is ai guess u wld call it a generic monitor. i havent ever had to check it b4. i just want to know what it is i am doing wrong :S heeelp pleeez
thank ya all in advance
have a great day
Okay to let you know, Linux is case sensitive, so xconfigurator is Xconfigurator, and it should be xf86config to get the text version of xfree86 configured. Give that a shot and see what happens.
I DID IT!!!!!! I got Xconfigurator and xfconfig to work and now i have my kde working so now i can work on getting my modem to work I am on my way to learning this great OS. I have one more question. I am slightly visually impared and would like to enlarge the screen. How do I do that? Thanx for everything
You should be able to do this by doing a crtl-alt-[minus] or ctrl-alt-[plus]
to increase or decrease the size in X. Either that or reconfigure X again with a different resolution.
