i still can't get sound to work. when i go to system settings -> sound card detection, it says:
The following audio device was detected
Vendor: Intel
Model: Corp. 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller
Module: snd-intel8x0
when i click on Play Test sound it doesn't play anything and when it asks did you hear the sample sound i click no. An Error Message comes up and says Automatic detection of the sound card did not work. Audio will not be available on the system. Please click OK to continue. Please help.
well, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't : often when I run into sound issues it's a simple matter of unloaded modules. Try alsaconf as root, it will run a script to autodetect and load proper modules, and restart alsa. Once it's finished, run kmix and make sure volumes are up and unmuted.
Well I did the alsamixer and everythings unmuted and turned all the way up. When i did alsaconf it didn't recognize the command. idk maybe i don't have drivers or I don't have the right sound stuff installed.
