Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Newbie and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.
Which distribution do you have? In some you should have defaults very close to what you need.

There is a web-based configuration tool called SWAT. I find that realy easy to use and does the job.

Dinithion,
Thanks for the information, but what I forgot to mention is that the Linux workstation is running in standalone mode (Not capable of connecting to either a network or internet.

Oh sorry, I probably read you question to fast.
Well. If your computer isn't connected to any network, you want need samba at all, as you have no computer to share folders with. But what is it you actually need? Basicly what you want to do, is use a USB harddrive on your linux?

I literally just added a post to my blog, I wrote this piece for Linux.com a year ago but some friends were asking me to post it elsewhere.

Samba
Dinithion
No mate, not your fault. I did not explain the whole setup properly in the first place. Here goes, I have a Linux stand alone machine and want to connect to a USB Hard disk drive on a WIndows XP machine in order to transfer data on the XP USB to the stand alone Linux machine.
I hope I have explained it better. I'm not a programmer as such, normally I train users to use a customised Linux software setup, so this is a venture for me.
