Steam / Playonlinux installs on root or others?

I have a question and I am not sure how to fin the answer on the Internet...
When I install Steam or Playonlinux, To install a package or exe using either, what partition would that install? Let's say I install FTL from Steam, is that installed on the same partition or something like home / data?

Is it possible to choose a playonlinux install to install in data so all users can benefit?

Many thanks for answering my question :-)

In steam, to use a different install path, you would go to:

Settings -> Downloads -> (At the top) Content Libraries -> [Select] Steam Library Folders -> Add/Remove Library Folder

Then change the location to wherever location you want games saved/ran.

I don't have playonlinux installed, so I cannot help you there. I do know though that it is possible to change the path in PlayonLinux as well. Just poke around in the settings.

It's best to set the path for both programs when you first install them so that your games/apps will all be in one location.

In my case with Kubuntu I find it easier to have my .PlayOnLinux folder on another partition and just symlink it into my /home/$USER. Same with my .steam folder. Also do the same with my VirtualBox folder. I do it with practically everything now that I think about it.

This way when and if I need to reinstall I can just have a script link everything into place instead of going through the settings of various things and changing the default locations.

Thanks for the tip on the Symlink :-) very useful
Also, thank you for clearing what doubts I had. I am partitioning and wanna see how big they need to be :-)
